Most people think of towing capacity when looking at trucks, but many don't realize that payload is just as important; if not more so (depending on the application). Construction or renovation; oilfield work; motorcycle, quad, and snowmobile transport, are all applications where payload would most likely be more important than what your truck can pull.
In order to make sure you have the right truck, for every job; the F150 offers best in class (1) tourque (510 lb. ft.), and horsepower (450 hp) in the available 3.5L Ecoboost ® H.O. V6. In addition; a properly configured truck allows for best in class (1) payload of 3,270 lbs. (2).
(1) Class is full sized pickups under 8,500 lbs. GVWR, based on Ford segmentation
(2) Max payload on 2020 F150 XL Regular Cab, 8 ft. box, 5.0L engine, 4X2, Heavy-Duty Payload Package, and 18" heavy duty wheels
Maximum payload, is heavily dependant on which of the 6 engines available are powering your F150. Of course, there are additional factors such as the truck's cab to box configuration, drivetrain (2WD, or 4WD), optional equipment, cargo weight, and passenger weight; which all need to be considered in assessing the payload for each individual unit. The carrying capacity is listed on the label on the door jamb, for individual carrying capacity of unique units.
Listed is the maximum tow rating, and maximum payload for each engine available. If you'd like more detailed information on the engines, or the towing (conventional, or fifth wheel); please follow one of the links below.
(3) Raptor model only
(4) Limited model only
Maximum payload and towing capabilities are for properly equipped base vehicles with required equipment and a 150-lb. driver and may vary based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories and number of passengers. See label on door jamb for carrying capacity of a specific vehicle. Horsepower, torque, payload and towing are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously
